Dear GHHS Friends and Family,
As the year comes to a close, we reflect on the moments that allowed us to work together in making a pawsitive impact. Our life-saving efforts ranged from rescuing dozens of pets from rural hoarding cases, to providing long-term medical care for animals like Belvey and Java, to celebrating the love story of Ginger and Grey, two FIV guests from The Haven who found a home together. Each moment tells a story of hope, love, and trust. In total, more than 2,000 animals received second chances in 2025, all made possible by the incredible compassion of advocates like you.
In addition to the 703 adoptions so far this year, our mission reached further than ever, strengthening and supporting the broader community we serve.
- King’s Kitchen provided food to 409 families!
- 120 spay and neuter vouchers were provided to North Alabama pet owners.
- Monte’s Wellness Clinic provided services to 278 pets!
- $12,000 was provided to pets in emergency need through the Good Samaritan Fund.

For the second year in a row, medical care has been our focus within the shelter. It was unofficially the “Year of Orthopedic Surgery”, although we also experienced heartworm cases, eye enucleations, and cancer. A combination of routine intake procedures, emergency medical care, and treatment for serious illness and injury totaled more than $140,000 this year.
While the GHHS team, staff and volunteers, carried out our mission each day, we also worked toward strengthening and advancing the shelter campus. With your support, the following projects and initiatives are currently underway:
- Cat Room Renovation Project: Expanding our main cat facilities by spring!
- Outdoor Dog Kennels: The first of eighteen has been upgraded to a sanitizable turf lawn!
- Phase 3 Initiative: The buildout of the cat isolation room adjacent to The Haven is complete; we are just waiting for the cat condos to arrive! Next is the start of the new intake space, including an in-house clinic and additional kennels.
From all of us at GHHS, thank you for being part of our life-saving network. We are humbled to say, second chances start here.
