According to Money Magazine’s 2021 national pet study and best places to adopt pets survey, the Greater Huntsville Humane Society tops the list of places to adopt a furry friend in the great State of Alabama. We are tremendously honored by this announcement, although it’s no big surprise – we KNOW how great the Rocket City is – at just about everything.
If you don’t want to take our word for it, check out where Business Insider ranks Huntsville in the top 50 places to live in the United States. Pretty high on the list, we know. Huntsville is a remarkable place to live, nestled right in the Tennessee Valley and made most famous by the incredible work being done by those smarty-pants people over on Redstone Arsenal. The Rocket City is the fastest-growing city in Alabama, and those who call it home are enjoying an emerging downtown shopping and dining scene even as the city maintains a low cost of living. And if you haven’t heard about the MidCity District yet, get excited.
As the article from Money Magazine states, “From cuddles to walks to that hilarious moment when you randomly catch your animal doing something weird, being a pet owner is ridiculously rewarding.”
We want all of our potential Rocket City adopters, foster families, and volunteers at GHHS to feel the love and companionship that a four-legged furry friend provides. In 2020, we saw a dramatic increase in owner surrender requests, but we also saved over 1,000 lives of animals in need. We feel that number can grow even higher in 2021.
In a new survey from Money and Morning Consult, four in 10 Americans said they spent more than $300 purchasing their furry friend.
“Adopt, don’t shop” was a common refrain among animal lovers and respondents to the Money Magazine survey. Some 37% of people got their pet from a shelter or rescue group, including nearly half of the mixed-breed dog and cat owners reached as part of the March survey.
At GHHS, we feel that number should be 100%.
That’s our motto here at GHHS. We are a no-kill shelter. We provide forever homes to all animals in our care.
If you’re looking for a pet but trying to be fur-ugal, consider checking out local shelters and adoption center. Make sure to check out the animals currently in care at GHHS available to adopt. And for the icing on the cake, check out our Google and Yelp Reviews. It seems the general public agrees; when adopting a pet in North Alabama, look no further than the Greater Huntsville Humane Society.
Not only can you find a new companion to make your home in the Rocket City feel a little warmer, but you can save a life.
Thank you to the team of researchers and investigators at Money Magazine for your efforts to compile of the statistical data for mentioning #GHHSPets as the top place to adopt in Alabama!
We know why fuzzy tails wag and why content kitties purr, but statistics of this magnitude are best left to the expert bean counters.
