A Few Pigs, Some Pups, and Five Pregnant Cats walk into GHHS...

No joke—just a week in the life at the Greater Huntsville Humane Society.
We’ve had a wild few weeks—think 5 pregnant cats, two orphaned puppies, a pig rescue, multiple surgeries, and one sweet senior dog who may soon be blind. It’s the kind of stretch that reminds us why we do what we do. But it’s also a clear reminder that…
We can't do it without you!

Our hearts said “yes” when others had to say “no,” and that’s why this spring, we’re reaching out to you—our animal-loving community—for help.

💰 Medical Costs: Rising Fast

Our hearts said “yes” when others had to say “no,” and that’s why this spring, we’re reaching out to you—our animal-loving community—for help. Over the last two weeks, we’ve spent nearly $7,000 on medical care. The $5,050 raised during our 100 Envelope Challenge? Already gone. But every single dollar has gone directly to saving lives.

Thanks to the quick action of South Huntsville Veterinary Hospital and Summit Veterinary Urgent Care, and the support of Huntsville Animal Services, Limestone County Animal Care & Control —we’ve made a huge impact. But there’s still more work to do!

A special thank you to our amazing GHHS fosters and team of staff and volunteers for assisting in these cases, and to Eastern Snouts Adoption and Rehoming, for helping find the pigs homes! To our donors and supporters, thank you in advance. Without our pet loving community, these efforts would not be possible.

Now it’s your turn to meet the animals we’re helping—together.

Momma Maggie and her piglets

A pig owner in rural Alabama needed HELP, and we were excited to jump on the chance to help. Two trips later we have secured spay for Momma Maggie (3/8) and she was quickly adopted through Easter Snouts Adoption and Rehoming. Over this past weekend, CEO Spencer Batcheller and his family travelled back to the property to assist with three of the piglets! We will continue to work with the property owner, vets, and partnered rescue to ensure the health and safety of those remaining on the property.  Care cost of the pigs so far is approximately $1,400.

Wesley

Named in honor of GHHS Dr. Wesley Clendinen, DVM, this small guy was found out near Maysville off of Hwy 72 by a concerned pet lover. This brave lil’ boy had emergency surgery for a broken leg. Wesley is in foster recovering, and we expect his full surgery bill to be approximately $2,000, not including aftercare needs.

Pinky

This beautiful dark brown tabby recently had a tail amputation due to an old injury and now has the cutest bobtail! Her foster says Pinky is sweet, chill, and will make a great loyal companion! Pinky’s surgery $400.

Annie & Lyla

These two smaller-than-most puppies were abandoned at GHHS a couple of weeks ago. They went straight into foster requiring around the clock bottle feeding and some extra TLC. They are currently thriving but have a journey before they are where we want them to be. We guess they were around 3-4 weeks when dropped off but are hopeful all is well in their health as they are eating and growing like weeds!

Marbles

You may have seen her video on IG or TT with our volunteer Elain, working the front desk. We have deemed her a “professional attention seeker”. This gorgeous gal was another recent pull has an enlarged heart and murmur. Due to some extra testing needed, she has also went into foster until appointments are completed. At this time, we do not know how much her needed care will be.

Memaw

Oh, sweet Memaw. GHHS took over the care of this sweet lady from Huntsville Animal Services. After their initial medical care, transferred her to South Huntsville Veterinarian Hospital for further evaluation. Currently at the shelter, we expect that Memaw will need to have her second eye removed. Although this senior gal is sweet, she is scared – new places, major surgery…but we want the BEST for her and will do what it takes, no matter what! Full cost of Memaw’s care is TBD.

Pregnant Cats Parade

In addition to these medical cases completed, GHHS has placed FIVE pregnant cats in three different foster homes, over the past week. More info will be shared as time allows on these mommas and their babies!
