Animal Rescue in North Alabama

The Greater Huntsville Humane Society is dedicated to furthering humane treatment of animals and providing adoption services.

Rescue: One Life at a Time

The Greater Huntsville Humane Society has been rescuing North Alabama’s homeless animals for 55 years. Our mission is dedicated to supporting the humane care and treatment of all animals and providing adoption services to homeless and unwanted animals.

We also proudly serve our community through programs and initiatives such as King’s Community Kitchen, Pet Wellness Clinics (returning in 2024!), the Good Samaritan Fund, and Community Day. Three Tails ReSale, the GHHS Thrift Store, provides a unique shopping experience for all members of our community, while supporting the pets of GHHS.

A Haven for FeLV/FIV+ Cats

This facility offers a safe space for cats that are positive with FeLV (feline leukemia) and FIV (feline AIDS), with hopes of providing a space for education and adoption. The facility was converted from the original GHHS Thrift Store on the Johnson Road property.

Help cover the cost of medical expenses

Thanks to our Pitch In Pets fund, animals with serious illnesses and injuries were rehabilitated and adopted into their FURever loving homes.

King’s Community Kitchen
Providing low-income pet owners with food for their pets in times of financial difficulty.

By giving out dog and cat food, we can save lives and keep animals in their own homes. GHHS also donates food to other rescues & shelters, local organizations and community partners, to reach as many pet owners as possible.

Foster an adoptable animal
