Position Summary: Responsible for facilitating the advancement of the Greater Huntsville Humane Society through excellent communication and public relations, practiced fundraising, community outreach, solicitation of sponsorships and donations, and grant writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Public Relations & Outreach
    • Develop community awareness and support of GHHS through social media, radio, television, print and digital outreach, and strategic partnerships
    • Manage all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, You Tube, etc.) and effectively interact with users by monitoring conversations, posts, and reviews
    • Coordinate with internal, external, and sometimes volunteer resources (for example, graphic designers) to develop engaging and timely marketing materials for all GHHS events, programs, and initiatives
    • Create and manage the distribution of the GHHS newsletter: Pet Gazette
    • Create and manage the distribution of the GHHS e-newsletter through Emma
    • Mange office and outreach materials (business cards, banners, signage, brochures, etc.) to maintain consistent branding and accurate information
    • Register and monitor web hosting for GHHS, The Dog Ball, Pet Photo Contest, and any other GHHS websites
    • Directs, actively monitors, and maintains a comprehensive and accurate donor data base (using our donor management system, NeonCRM)
    • Cultivate partnerships with television and radio stations, print publications, blogs, and other media outlets to ensure continued presence of GHHS in the community
    • Manage GHHS donor relations, ensuring appropriate and timely recognition to all donors, sponsors, and/or supporters
    • Other duties as assigned

 

  • Fundraising & Events
    • Creates and leads a coordinated program of fundraising activities designed to increase the number and level of donors
    • Develops and executes in the identification of new prospects
    • Maintains close collaborative partnerships with major donors, potential major donors, other nonprofits, and community resources
    • Develops and maintains a portfolio of major gift prospects
      Establishes, documents, and maintains departmental policies and procedures related to policies, procedures, systems
    • Coordinate and promote events for the organization including, but not limited to, adoption events and fundraisers as well as GHHS presence at community-wide events such as the HOTC Dog Fair with a great attention to detail
    • Develop sponsors for special events and cultivate partnerships for cross-promotional events
    • Provide support to fundraising committees as requested (for example, The Dog Ball)
    • Provide training and direction where needed to volunteers and staff who work events
    • Organize and provide needed publicity materials to support special events
    • Make sure all publicity materials and supplies are collected and put away after an event
    • Coordinate offsite funding programs (such as our Combined Federal Campaign status, Kroger Plus Rewards, Target’s Circle Giving Program, etc.)

 

  • Supervisory Duties
    • Supervise the Volunteer & Community Outreach Coordinator’s duties which include, but are not limited to, the recruitment and orientation of volunteers, educating the community on the humane treatment of animals through our Lucky Dog program, and managing the GHHS community assistance programs such as the Pet Wellness Clinic and King’s Community Kitchen.

Required Qualifications

  • A four-year degree in Marketing, Public Relations, or another relevant field
  • Five years of experience in conducting special events and fundraisers
  • Three years of management experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and productively with Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters
  • Web design and web maintenance experience
  • Well-versed in advancement strategies including best practices related to development for nonprofits

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Experience with a capital campaign
  • Grant writing experience
  • Experience with NeonCRM or a similar donor management database
