Position Summary: Works with the CEO and staff, the GHHS Board of Directors, and the Animal Care Committee to develop and implement GHHS policies related to animal care and treatment, animal handling, and the adoption process. Follows governmental and other regulatory requirements. Supervises the daily operations of the shelter and facility, including animal care staff. Works closely with the Clinic Manager and Animal Care staff to ensure the shelter operates effectively and efficiently, providing proper care for the animals.
GHHS Responsibilities:
- Supervises Clinic Manager and Animal Care staff; develops and maintains protocol for animal care to industry standards, provides leadership, mentoring, opportunities for professional development, and progressive discipline if needed.
- Support the front desk with direct contact with the public and assist with problematic situations, as well as handling phone calls when call volume overflows.
- Maintains contact for rehome, petfinder.com, adoptapet.com, and ShelterLuv to assure prompt responses regarding surrender or adoption of animals and general requests for information.
- Responsible for reporting all animal outcomes to the Board of Directors through the CEO every month. Responsible for reporting numbers to Shelter Animals Count & Shelter Data Alliance.
- Addresses concerns and complaints from the public and staff related to the shelter.
- Responsible for maintenance and repair of shelter and all buildings & grounds; schedules routine maintenance; secures bids for services.
- Provides input to the CEO on animal care and the operational portion of the annual budget; seeks to reduce costs where possible while maintaining the highest quality of products. Continuously seeks ways to save money without sacrificing necessary operational costs or the highest level of care to animals in our care
- Staff Liaison to Animal Care Committee.
- Maintains awareness of industry standards and innovations through publications, attendance at seminars, and contact with persons of equivalent positions in similar organizations, and communicates such information to the CEO, staff, and Animal Care Committee.
Coordinates special projects for and with the Volunteer & Program Coordinator. - Works in conjunction with the CEO to further GHHS’s mission and to propel the mission forward through strategic planning and expansion.
- Providing HR support to include onboarding of new employees
Order, maintain, and inventory all office supplies - Upkeep of records related to all office equipment (such as inventory, supplies, and maintenance)
- Ensures record keeping, including medical records, adoptions, transfers/transports, etc., is accurate and up to date
Employee schedules & development - Liaison to other rescue shelters and animal welfare organizations.
Adoption & Foster policies - Performs other duties as requested.
Required Qualifications:
LVT or Associate’s degree preferred in Animal Science or related field; extensive work experience required in the field of animal care; minimum of five years of management experience.
